As a formal tribute to their 125-years of service and commitment to the people of Chicago by providing a quality education for working adults, National Louis University hosted a special celebration on January 19, 2012, with many distinguished guests—among them Andrew Mason, CEO and Founder of Groupon and Patricia and Martin “Mike” Koldyke. Mr. Koldyke is founder and chairman emeritus of the Academy for Urban School Leadership and founder and chairman emeritus of the Golden Apple Foundation. Mrs. Koldyke serves on the board of the Golden Apple.
Dr. Nivine Megahed, president of National Louis University, presented Mr. Mason and Mr. & Mrs. Koldyke with the first annual Pioneer Awards, awarded to individuals who exhibit exceptional character and a sense of higher purpose in their lives and work; thereby increasing opportunity and quality of life for others. These qualities reflect the core values of National Louis founder, Elizabeth Harrison, as well as the university.
